Horizontal Mixer

The horizontal mixer is one of the most widely used mixing devices across industries such as chemicals, food processing, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, and fertilizers. Featuring a U-shaped vessel and a double-layer ribbon agitator as its core technology, the equipment combines the advantages of high mixing efficiency, excellent uniformity, a high loading coefficient, low energy consumption, and minimal residue. Thanks to its rapid mixing speed, absence of dead zones, low residue levels, and adaptability to frequent product changes, it has become a key piece of equipment for mixing powders, granules, and viscous materials.
The design of critical components is specifically optimized to handle the material characteristics of different industries. The inner wall of the vessel can be fitted with rubber or 304 stainless steel liners to prevent material adhesion, while the edges of the ribbon blades are hard-faced with wear-resistant alloy to withstand abrasion from gritty materials. Shaft ends are equipped with either gland packing seals or labyrinth air-purge seals. The discharge system utilizes a large pneumatic bomb-bay door or a butterfly valve to ensure rapid, residue-free unloading. The vessel can be customized with heating or cooling jackets and supports process requirements such as vacuum or positive pressure operation. Offering low investment and operating costs, the horizontal mixer provides an efficient and reliable solution for material mixing across various sectors.

Hardware configuration and component functions

The hardware components of a horizontal mixer mainly include:

(I) Cylinder Assembly: U-shaped long cylinder structure, with customizable heating or cooling jackets.

(II) Agitation Assembly: Horizontal main shaft and double or triple-layer spiral blades. The mixing tools are made of high wear-resistant steel.

(III) Transmission Assembly: Motor, pulley, cycloidal reducer.

(IV) Sealing Assembly: Shaft end packing seal or labyrinth air-blowing seal.

(V) Discharge Assembly: Pneumatic large opening door or manual/pneumatic butterfly valve.

(VI) Control Assembly: Electrical control box and frequency converter.

Material range and processing capacity

Horizontal mixers can handle a wide range of materials, including powders, granules, and viscous materials. These include: fertilizers (organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, potting soil, humic acid, etc.); chemicals (titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, chemical additives, etc.); food and pharmaceuticals (food additives, traditional Chinese medicine, etc.); and building materials (insulating mortar, putty, gypsum, etc.). Processing capacity ranges from 30kg to over 5 tons per batch.

Operating Mechanism and Hybrid Principle

The horizontal mixer operates based on a "double-layer spiral ribbon convection circulation + three-dimensional composite motion." As the main shaft rotates, the outer spiral ribbon pushes the material from both ends of the cylinder towards the center, while the inner spiral ribbon simultaneously returns the material from the center to both ends. This creates a strong axial convection circulation. Combined with the shearing and radial tumbling action of the blade edges, the material completes a comprehensive mixing and circulation within the cylinder. Even with differences in specific gravity and particle size, the rapid and intense tumbling and scattering by the staggered mixing blades achieves excellent mixing results.

Hybrid process and production line coordination

Horizontal mixers play a crucial role in production lines across various industries. The front end of the equipment receives crushed and screened materials; the equipment then efficiently mixes these materials; once the mixed material reaches the required uniformity, it proceeds to subsequent granulation and packaging processes. The equipment can be combined with batching machines, conveyors, and granulators to form a fully automated production line, achieving integrated operation of continuous feeding, intelligent mixing, and quantitative discharge. It supports 24-hour uninterrupted stable production and is fully adaptable to the needs of large-scale production.
